Rock Fiesta in Quartzsite AZ, the first fest of it's kind, a HUGE success world wide.

The Spring Break Latino Campout Rock Fest is lauded as a first in world history, produced by festival veteran Hal Davidson.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

YUMA, Ariz. - May 14, 2016 - PRLog - Jan 14, 2017

Three years in the making, after promoting the Latino Electronic Rock Band KINKY in Miami, 2014, long time festival producer and consultant Hal Davidson embarked on a 2 1/2 year sojourn across the country searching for the right location for his new invention, Rock Fiesta. After viewing locations in Texas, Florida, New Mexico and Nevada, Davidson settled on an unlikely spot. The dusty little truck stop of a town, Quartzsite, Arizona, 18 east of the California border, 1 1/2 hours west if Phoenix. "It was in the epicenter of the SW U.S. Latino population, "the site had a mystical energy especially at dusk" Hal said.

This festival site search was not new, nor was the ambulant promoter to be delayed or stopped. Hal Davidson was on a mission. He knew this was to be and he would not stop until the deed was done.

Previously there was no music festival with so many great bands appealing to young Latinos in America offering camping on the moon.

Quartzsite is positioned next to Interstate 10, North of Yuma, South of Lake Havasu. The same town hosts the famous Gem and RV show every winter. So "it is a small town that understands BIG" Davidson said this weekend in his Maryland office..Average age in Q, 69.

After staying at Desert Gardens Showgrounds for a few days as the temps exceeeded 100, he received permission from the town and his festival dream was blessed. He then composed a convincing proposal, raised investors and moved to Q.

Not at all Latino with only rudimentary Spanish skills, Davidson hired two young Latinos to live in the rented production house. Matty and Alejandro were excited about working on such a promising event. When they saw the talent lineup developing, they knew Rock Fiesta would be a success. Davidson booked the finest Latino Rock lineup in history, He soon was receiving calls from media in other countries asking if this was really true. CAIFANES, CAFE TACVBA, MALDITA VECINDAD, EL TRI, MOLOTOV, KINKY, SILVERIO, PANTEON ROCOCO, LOS AMIGOS INVISIBLES, DIVISION MINUSCULA, the Mexican metal band S7N and many more,

Davidson pulled it off and except for a couple of the bands, he had never heard of the rest of them. He went to work educating himself fast on the incredible music of Mexican Rock and dove into action. He was building a town on the outskirts of town. "It seemed that the entire town really wanted it!" Hal said.

We brought everything in, 50 light towers backup generators, a huge 145' wide double stage to eliminate set changes, portajohns, showers, tents, trailers, campers for rent, and the cerveza was frio and only $5 a cup. Hard Liquor was also available, so the party went on for three days. Only two pot busts, no violence and the best behaved audience ever at a rock festival.

Journalists everywhere couldn't believe the talent roster, but it was true, he had signed contracts. Even Mariluz of Vesper PR in L.A, the acredited PR firm, needed assuarnaces all of these bands were actually booked for one festival in this remote location. One of the many FB videos was entitled "Where the hell is Quarrtzsite?"

Davidson and his two protoges tolied night and day for 6 months in this desert town where the only thing in abundance is dust and rocks. Summer Pop. 3,500.

Davidson situated the concert area at the foot of Q Mountain, the entire site was 118 acres.More than 90 positive articles proclaim the quality of the double stage production and the non-stop rock for two days during Spring Break, 2016.

The Fiesta featured an early entry day on Thursday March 17, so festivaliers could settle in early and party at hector and Pedro's Saloon and the Late Nioght Dance Tent where Matty Dee, Hal's associate produced the best Latino DJs in a state-of-the-art sound and lights show nitely after the main stage stopped at midnight and all day and night Thursday, the early entry day.

Starting with an Early Bird price of just $99 for the weekend, camping was only an extra $40 for three nights. The price graduated to $159 for the weekend at the gate. The festival attracted 6,000 attendees per day and they are all asking for ROCK FIESTA 2017.

As far as a Rock Fiesta's future in Quartzsite, Davidson said "not going to happen, just too expensive, not enough hotels and the remoate location drives up the costs.Did we mention a nasty La Paz County Sheriff's office? It's good the town doesn't like the Sheriff either. Plus we had an adversarial Events company and security company from Phoenix, I would never work with those people again." "So in every great festival there is always conflict", Davidson stated,

"We are working on bringing Rock Fiesta to another city in Arizona, we have friends in other places now, and they are excited about the possibility.", he said.

At age 20, Hal Davidson was the promoter of Stompin 76, the legendary Bluegrass Festival attracting over 100,000 in 1976 to Galax, Virgina. See https://www.stompin76.com

STOMPIN 76 Bumper Stickers Released, Commemorating The Bluegrass Festival That Doesn't Stop Giving

40 Years Ago over 100,000 gathered in SW Virginia for the biggest party in the bicentennial year.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 11, 2016

Memories that is, lots of people with lots of memories of an event that impacted their lives forever! Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of what is now considered the greatest bluegrass festival in American history, the promoter of Stompin 76, Hal Davidson has just released identical vinyl bumper stickers which have been seen on cars, trucks and vans all over the eastern U.S. since then.

Held that warm weekend Friday - Sunday, August 6, 7, 8 1976, 8 miles N of Galax, Virginia at the 400 acre Lawson Farm, then known as the New River Jam Site, the event's size and scope gathered speed through the spring and early '76 summer with Davidson's non-stop promotion on radio, in newspapers and with those red, white and blue 11" wide bumper stickers. "It had to be 4 mil vinyl and not paper so they would last!" Davidson said in his Rockville, Maryland office this Sunday. "They lasted alright."

Back in February, 1976, Davidson knew a young active audience wanted a big event to celebrate the bicentennial year of our nation's independence. Extremely driven at age 20, after promoting 8 concerts in the Baltimore area, he remembers coming up with the concept and name in his apartment while talking to friends about the need and his burning desire to switch from concerts to festivals. He found the location, booked the bands through Keith Case in Nashville and started promoting with his local friends helping on the sojourn.

Appearing on one stage: Bonnie Raitt, Earl Scruggs, Lester Flatt, Vassar Clements, Ry Cooder, John Hartford, Osborne Brothers, The Rowans, John Prine, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Doc & Merle Watson, The Dillards, Hickory Wind, New Grass Revival, David Bromberg, Red White and Bluegrass, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Papa John Creach, Eric Weisberg and Deliverance, Star Spangled Washboard Band, Grass On The Rocks, Good Ol' Boys, Joe and Bing. 3 Days of Fun and Music for only $12.00

This one-time event ended up becoming the biggest bluegrass party on record. The star-studded bluegrass/ blues lineup, combined with the lure of southern Virginia's love of the genre, a low ticket price and rampaging marketing campaign, made Stompin 76 the place to be that August. Many attendees and their decedents still talk about wild experiences in detail forging close relationships lasting a lifetime. Bluegrass did it! Davidson sells hundreds of Stompin 76 tee shirts every year, now the sticker is here.

This year, while putting in her order for tee shirts, Sue said, "I told my husband about your bumper stickers and he started reminiscing. He's not one to do FB but I told him he should share some of his stories! He had an old VW van that had your Stompin76 bumper sticker on it for years. I don't know what made him sadder…to see his old VW get hauled off to the junk yard or that he couldn't take the bumper sticker off. LOL! You gave our generation great memories that will last a lifetime (even if a bit foggy from the booze and drugs). =)

The pounding promotion brought festival goers together from all over the eastern U.S.. The people, the bands and that natural place, made this bluegrass festival not like any other bluegrass music festival before or after. It was a huge rock festival atmosphere without the edge. People took care of each other and still talk about hop they did. The Pagans motorcycle club played their role too as the security company largely disappeared.

Luann said, "Stompin '76 was my first bluegrass festival and I loved it! I convinced a co-worker and friend to attend it with me. Two young 20 something's women, we drove to the site and found that the bottom of the mountain was as far as we could get! We pitched our tent in an elementary school playground and headed up the mountain! The walk up was an experience in and of itself! We saw people renting out their yards to festival goers...people were in the middle of the road, camping, cooking, and sharing all of their wares!!! It was one of the most exciting times of my life! But once you start talking about Stompin everyone gets a great big smile on their faces!"

Hal Davidson is still promoting, just completing ROCK FIESTA in the Arizona desert, the greatest campout Latino rock festival in American history. "It was like producing a festival on the moon." Davidson said. Just google it. He consults on concerts and festivals worldwide. In August he's about to present his first 'How to promote concert and music festivals' webinar and is working with Las Vegas Illusionist on a new rock - magic stage production.

Find the Stompin 76 memories, the stickers and the tee shirts at stompin76.com. Y'ALL KEEP STOMPIN!

Concert and Festival Promoting Books Now Offered in New Combo Packages.

Music Festival Producer Hal Davidson meets the need of new promoters asking for more information cheaper, by grouping instructional manuals in discount packages.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Oct 24, 2013

Returning from Cyprus, where Hal Davidson is performing due diligence on both a major Yacht Festival and electronic music festival there, he was deluged with emails from new promoters visiting his popular concert-promotions.com website asking for a more affordable way to obtain his books on concert and music festival promotions.

Davidson listens to his customers, sometimes calling him from Australia and Greece in the middle of the night, (he actually picks up the phone and talks to book buyers who are shocked to speak directly to the author!). The emails and calls are asking for a discount if they buy more than one book (manual).

So Davidson quickly fired off an email to his web designer in Pakistan rushing a re-merchandising of his best selling instructional manuals since 1999.

Within a few days, logging on to Davidson's main site www.concert-promotions.com in the right column, you'll see 3 combo packages to buy HOW NOT TO PROMOTE CONCERTS & MUSIC FESTIVALS, 374 pages, HOW TO PROMOTE CONCERTS SIMPLIFIED, 160 pages and CONCERT PROMOTIONS PROPOSAL, PLANS & CONTRACTS, 150 pages now available in 2 or 3 book combos with his forms CD for between $99.00 and $148.50. The saving is significant and promoters can't wait to get the Priority Mail Box in their mailbox.

Davidson's books offer precious, rarely shared details of a complicated business providing advice, methods, contacts, contracts, cost sheets, instructions, the equivalent of a serious course of study.

Hal Davidson is an active event producer, promoter and consultant so his books reflect a changing industry and unique assistance on how to be an independent promoter. "The testimonials are real. Many customers have to re-buy because its one of the most stolen books out there." Davidson smiled and said.

Here's just a couple of real comments from his customers:" Hal is one of the most inspirational people I have ever come in contact with. His decades of experience within the live entertainment industry is a treasure to all of us trying to figure out this business. I highly recommend Hal from conception through to completion of any promoter's event as a consultant. At least do yourself a favour and purchase one of his books. You'll want the others." Simon Kyriacou, Australia.

"Hal, I just finished reading your big book and I must say that it is a masterpiece. I learned a great deal from this book and am eager to get started into the concert promotion business. Thank you fro creating this book as it will give me guidance in my future events. Thank you." Donald Davidson Canada (no relation)

Hal Davidson, just returned from Australia, advance planning One Summer Music Fest scheduled for late 2013 near Byron Bay, NSW. Hal Davidson Consults New Australian Music Festival for 2013

One Summer Music Festival slated for Byron Bay/ Ballina Area of NSW, Australia guided by veteran Festival Producer Hal Davidson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nov 07, 2012

Working with Melbourne club promoter Sammy Prosser since December 2011, Hal Davidson flew from his Maryland, USA base to Byron Bay, Australia earlier this year to perform the due diligence for Sammy's promotions company ZiggyT LTD.

Living in a polynesian style rental suite, Davidson started his rounds inspecting venues such as Belongil Fields which made famous Splendour In The Grass and The Byron Bay Bluesfest.

After recruiting Rob Doolan of Balanced Systems to gather other consultants needed for an expensive "DA" Developmental Application process, it was discovered that surprisingly, the last thing Byron Bay's Green Council wanted was another festival. "The world does not realize how anti-festival this town's government truly is. People think because of Bluesfest and Splendour, that its a festival town. Wrong." Hal said.

Both legendary fests have purchased large land tracts and have pitched a protracted legal battle to finally obtain permission to promote their events out of town, but within enough proximity to still call their event's locations "Byron Bay".

Davidson, experienced and flexible, immediately searched for suitable sites outside the grasp of the evil Bryon Council. With Doolan's help, he found a 100 yr. old horse racetrack and the cooperative town of Ballina, just 25 minutes down the road from Byron. "And that's where the regional airport is, so to go to Byron you'd have to land in Ballina anyway." Hal said. Then Davidson and Doolan found that the airport had 70 open acres to camp the festival attendees, less than 2 miles from the track. "We'll use a bus system to commute the audience from the airport and Byron Bay." Davidson figured.

A deal was struck with the Ballina Jockey Club which wants the event. "Craig, the GM there is a real cooperative guy." Hal said.

After 3 months of daily detailed operational research and planning, Hal said "One Summer Music festival is the only event of its kind, merging the already existing Schoolies crowds with a much needed music festival loaded with activities and beach parties. Outdoor Concert Stages under the Microscope

Concert and Festival Industry see changes in outdoor concert stage construction.

Concert Promoter Fails to Stage a Stock Comeback

Live Nation shares fall despite deals with Universal, Facebook.

By Joel Russell

Monday, September 26, 2011

Times are tough at Live Nation Entertainment. The Beverly Hills company is bracing for the loss of its biggest customer while suffering from a recession that has taken a severe toll on ticket sales.

While its stock price is way down, it’s not just rolling over. Last week Live Nation, the largest concert promoter in the world, announced strategic alliances with Universal Music Group and Facebook. The announcement had little immediate effect. The company’s stock closed at a 52-week low Sept. 21, representing a loss of 20 percent in value in the last year.

Analysts said increasing fears of a double-dip recession and competition in concert ticket sales explain the stock’s decline, even as they praised the strategic partnership with Universal.

Live Nation announced Sept. 19 that its music-act management subsidiary will form a joint venture with Universal Music, the world’s biggest record label, to promote bands through worldwide sponsorships and merchandising. The plan is to bundle tickets, recorded music or related products and sell them together through Ticketmaster, the largest online ticket service in the world, which Live Nation took over last year.

In a separate deal, Live Nation announced at an investor conference that the Ticketmaster division will start selling tickets through social networking giant Facebook. The service will allow concertgoers to share information about upcoming events and buy tickets near their friends for a concert without leaving the site.

David Joyce, an analyst at Miller Tabak in New York, praised the Universal deal as a smart decision. But he added that the company is especially exposed to recessionary pressure because of the direct link between discretionary income and entertainment spending.

“The stock hit a year-to-date low on macroeconomic fears of another recession,” he told the Business Journal last week. “Consumer discretionary stocks have a rougher patch when consumers might be pulling back on their spending, so the stock movement has overly punished Live Nation.”

Another factor in the stock’s decline is the announcement a month ago that downtown L.A.-based Anschutz Entertainment Group, or AEG, had launched an online ticketing service and would transform from a Ticketmaster customer to a competitor.

AEG, a sports and music conglomerate, is now Ticketmaster’s biggest customer. Joyce estimates Ticketmaster will sell about 136 million tickets this year, with AEG shows accounting for about 42 million of them.

AEG’s new ticketing service, called Axs and pronounced “access,” will gradually grow to handle all ticketing at AEG’s venues by the end of next year.

However, Joyce believes that it will only be a 5 percent loss for Live Nation because the company has a plan to increase international sales.

“Live Nation has been embarking on international ticketing growth that should more than offset what might be lost from AEG,” he wrote to investors Aug. 23 after AEG announced Axs. “This was an expected development.”

Live Nation declined to comment for this story.

Hal Davidson, a concert promoter and music festival consultant in Rockville, Md., said that as Ticketmaster’s processing fees have grown and consumer’s wallets have shrunk, about 30 Internet companies have sprung up to sell tickets with much lower fees. Axs will become the largest player in that field of competition.

For independent concert organizers, contracting with startups makes financial sense. Ticketmaster charges promoters to sell the tickets for them and also takes a service charge from concertgoers. The startups don’t charge the promoters and are happy with a smaller service charge. For example, Ticketmaster might charge a $9 processing fee on top of a $60 ticket, while a startup competitor might charge less than $1.

“You have free ticketing for the promoter and it’s cheaper for the customer,” Davidson said.

Not even positive earnings could prop up the stock, however. In its most recent quarterly statement, Live Nation reported net income of $13.3 million compared with a loss of $32.8 million the same quarter the previous year before.

Douglas Arthur, an analyst at Evercore Partners in New York, said the key to the turnaround was the company’s decision to schedule fewer concerts and sell a higher percentage of the tickets without any discounts. This yielded double-digit increases in revenue per concert attendee and concert sponsorships.

However Arthur questioned if the company could stay profitable after the summer ended. He maintained a “neutral-weight” rating with a target price of $13.25.

“The stars aligned perfectly for Live Nation in the second quarter with a lot of large acts on the road, filling large stadiums at high ticket prices,” he wrote to investors Sept. 20. “We choose to wait for further evidence of an upturn.”

Miller Tabak analyst Joyce sees the Universal Music partnership as good positioning for Live Nation for the time when the economy returns to strength. He rates the stock a “buy” with a long-term target of $19 per share, more than double its current price.

“The strategic importance of this (Universal) partnership is that it helps to keep privately held competitor AEG at bay,” he wrote to investors Sept. 20. “We view this as a wise move by Live Nation to help solidify its artist relationships.”

Concert Promoters Motivate Buyers To Get Tickets Now

In the new economy, American ticket buyers are purchasing later, Promoters offer advance sale incentive

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jul 05, 2011

Many music festivals have been using tiered pricing for years, but since advance concert ticket sales are suffering due to a changed customer ticket buying behavior in the last 2-3 years, concerts are seeing better advance sales with better discount incentives.

For many years, music festivals have offered an early bird price, advance price and a gate price, promoting through email broadcasts just before the price change to create a sales spike. These prices are usually separated by $5, $10, or up to $20 increments. The greater the price change, the greater the sales spike. "A tiered pricing matrix in your website connected to a ticket landing page is the best way to direct the buyer to action. Just don’t make your pricing too complicated", said consultant Hal Davidson.

"Once the landing page comes up, at the top of the web page, offer some add-on discounts (special parking, limited time seating upgrade, meet and greet photo op, or a VIP package", Davidson advised. Just a 5% conversion relates to added gross revenues that don’t get passed onto the bands.

"Make sure once these ticket tier deadlines pass, you are not slow or sloppy about making sure no advertising is out there that shows the lower, earlier prices. Feature the new price and the new deadline immediately, even if it has to be changed just after midnight", Davidson said. Your tickets also need to be designed so that the right price is on the ticket you are selling at that time.

Pre-sale is another technique used to offer a super discount for a very limited amount of time (2 weeks or less), that is launched prior to the Early Bird sale.

Abrasmon added, "we live in a time when the correct PRICE POINT can make the difference in selling tickets and not. So be careful of the ending gate price because many are waiting to buy and you don’t want to penalize them for waiting to the point of hurting your gate walk-up. New lower ticket pricing is working to increase volume."

Sticking to higher ticket prices because the event costs dictate it in your figuring should alert you to re-thinking the viability of that particular event. If that ticket price is too high for your area, you may have trouble selling enough tickets to make it work. High break even points in this troubled economy is a bad gamble. It’s better to pass.

High unemployment, high gas prices, changes in consumer confidence and competition for that discretionary dollar have all changed the concert and festival world. Newer festivals and everyday concerts by indie promoters must offer a special appeal to increase chances of profitability.
